Andy Clarke, president of the American League of Bicyclists, will provide a national perspective. Bike Walk Alliance Executive David Wilson will provide an update on regional issues, and the rise of grassroots planning efforts. Nadine Lemmon, of the Tri-State Transportation Campaign, will discuss Complete Streets legislation – on the state and local levels, which are planning tools that require transportation officials to consider pedestrian and bicyclists when undertaking road projects.

There will be a reception following the summit, with a wine-and-food pairing, from 7.30 to 9.30, at the Gnarly Vine, 501 Main St., New Rochelle. Andy Clarke, president of the League of American Bicyclists, will be honoring Westchester Cycle Club for its Bike Club of the Year honor. There's a separate registration for the reception, which costs $25.

Get to know your stretch of the river at this community paddle. Free and no registration required.

Bronx River Ramble Along the Old Bronx River Parkway
Gun Hill Road #2 Station at White Plains Road

This walking tour will lead you along the Bronx River through Shoelace Park and following the old Bronx River Parkway from Gun Hill Road to East 233rd Street at Muskrat Cove (about 1.5 miles.) As we walk through Wakefield, Williamsbridge and Woodlawn, we will note the collection of 1920's and 1930's apartment buildings along Bronx Boulevard.

Tour leaders Mike Gupta and Hank Stroobants, are volunteers with the Bronx River Alliance and the Wakefiled, Williamsbridge & Woodlawn History Project and members of the East Bronx History Forum. Join us for some walking, some talking, some facts, some stories, some amazing old photos, and some handouts.

National Bike to Work Day
Throughout New York City/ Poe Cottage in the Bronx

Have you been waiting for a good reason to take in the fresh morning air...on bike? Well look no further! Friday, May 20th marks the National Bike to Work Day and New York City, including the Bronx, will take part in the days' festivities.


Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and Transportation Alternatives invites everybody who lives or works in the Bronx to take part in National Bike to Work Day. This short ceremonial ride down the famous Grand Concourse draws attention to the health and environmental benefits of biking. Afterwards, join BP Diaz for a free power breakfast at Lou Gehrig Plaza. Jurors are especially welcome to pedal to jury duty.

Bronx River Alliance's 'Rolling Along the River' day will launch the new equipment loan program, including a new fleet of bikes, offered at Concrete Plant Park; the newest park along the Bronx River which opened in 2010. The event is focused on getting Bronx residents active and out to experience the beauty of the Bronx River and Bronx River Greenway in a variety of ways.

Events of the day will feature the unveiling of our fleet of bikes, mechanic training stations, learn-to-ride clinic, a bike tour, obstacle course for children, canoeing on the river, healthy snacks, and much more.

Join the Bronx River Alliance and partner Bike New York for a Youth Learn-to-Ride Clinic at Concrete Plant Park. The event will be held form 11AM to 4PM in conjunction with the Bronx River Alliance's Rolling Along the River Day.

You do not need to register to enjoy the festivites of Rolling Along the River Day, but we kindly ask that you register if you would like to participate in the Learn-to-Ride Clinic.
